My first exposure to Michael Palin was not Monty Python but rather his travel documentary of "Around the World in 80 Days". His British wit combined with the scenery made it a delight. I became an instant fan of all of his specials. Currently, it's "Pole to Pole" in which he is traveling from the North Pole to the South Pole via the 30 degree east line of longitude. This was done in the summer of 1991. During that time, he experienced first-hand the fall of the Soviet Union, chaos in Sudan, and the aftermath of an Ethiopian civil war. Seeing how life in Kenya deteriorated in recent news, it was bittersweet to see it during stable times.
This is in contrast to the fancy of ultraviolence in the last post.
